Organic Therapeutic Peppermint Essential Oil, derived from the Mentha Piperita plant, boasts a sharp, invigorating mint scent, owing to its high menthol content. This oil is native to various countries, known as ‘mentha arvensis’ in Japan and ‘mentha pipiretta’ in supreme, both widely used in aromatherapy. Found in numerous U.S. household products, peppermint oil is not just a fragrance but a powerhouse of natural pesticides, particularly menthone. Available in liquid form or as capsules, its composition includes omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin A, C, minerals, manganese, iron, calcium, magnesium, folate, copper, and potassium.

The history of Peppermint Essential Oil dates back to 1000 B.C. in Egypt and ancient Asia. Utilized by early Egyptian, Chinese, and Japanese cultures for its healing properties, Greek mythology even associates it with transformation into the peppermint plant by the god Hades/Pluto. Today, named Mentha Piperita after the nymph in Greek mythology, it’s considered the world’s oldest medicine. While native to the Mediterranean, it thrives in North American and European gardens and is a staple in products ranging from soaps to medical remedies.

Peppermint Oil’s uses have been diverse throughout history, from a remedy in ancient civilizations to its integration into modern health and beauty products. Research has validated its medicinal properties, confirming its status as a natural powerhouse. Some additional benefits include:

  1. Digestive Aid: Peppermint oil is renowned for its ability to relieve digestive discomfort, alleviate symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and reduce nausea.
  2. Headache Relief: The oil’s cooling sensation may help alleviate headaches and migraines when applied topically or inhaled.
  3. Respiratory Support: Inhaling peppermint oil may aid in clearing respiratory pathways, making it a popular choice for addressing cold and flu symptoms.
  4. Mood Enhancement: The invigorating aroma of peppermint oil is known to boost mood and mental alertness, making it a common choice for aromatherapy.

Nutritional Information: Peppermint Essential Oil is not consumed directly in significant amounts, but its parent plant, Mentha Piperita, contains valuable nutrients, including omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. It is primarily used for its aromatic and therapeutic properties rather than as a nutritional supplement.

The extraction method plays a crucial role in obtaining pure essential oils. Steam Distillation is the best method for extracting essential oils. Steam is passed through plant material, and the resulting vapor is condensed to obtain the essential oil. After extraction, the essential oil is typically subjected to a distillation process to separate it from any remaining water or other components.

Bath Bomb:

Ingredients

1 cup of baking soda
3/4 cup of citric acid
3/4 cup of Epsom salts
4 tablespoons of fractionated coconut oil
1 tablespoon water in a spray bottle (optional)
10-12 drops of lavender essential oil
2″ metal bath bomb molds

Directions

    • Combine baking soda, citric acid, and Epsom salts in a medium mixing bowl. Use a fork to break up any clumps and mix thoroughly.
    • In a separate bowl, combine fractioned coconut oil and the essential oil of your choice.
    • Slowly add the wet ingredients to the baking soda mixture. It is very important that you do not add the liquid too fast. This will cause the mixture to activate prematurely. If the mixture seems too dry, use a spray bottle to add a bit of water one spray at a time.
    • Use a spoon to slowly combine the ingredients. The mixture should resemble wet sand.
    • Fill both sides of the mold and press together firmly. Both pieces of the mold should close together tightly.
